Educational Programs and Advocacy
Gender-based violence (GBV) is a heartbreaking reality that affects so many, yet it often goes unnoticed. Recognizing abuse isn’t always easy—it can be hidden behind everyday interactions or masked by fear and shame. Many people simply don’t know what to look for or how to help. And while experts like law enforcement and social workers play a role, the voices of survivors themselves are often missing from the conversation. Their perspectives—so deeply personal and real—are essential to creating change and truly supporting those in need.
That’s where SAFE comes in. We believe that education is the key to combating GBV, and we’ve built programs that don’t just inform—they connect, inspire, and empower. As a survivor-led organization, we bring lived experiences into every conversation. Our workshops, community talks, and advocacy efforts are designed to help individuals and organizations understand GBV on a deeper level, recognize the signs, and take meaningful action.
SAFE also works closely with community organizations, helping them create better ways to support survivors. Whether it’s through staff training or collaborative projects, we ensure that survivors’ voices are heard and that their needs are at the center of everything we do.
This isn’t about statistics or checklists—it’s about real people and real change. If you’d like to learn more about our programs or bring SAFE’s expertise to your community or organization, reach out to us today. Together, we can make a difference, one conversation, one connection, and one step at a time.
In 2018, more than 6 in 10 (61%) women aged 15 to 24 who lived in Canadian provinces experienced unwanted sexual behaviours in a public place.
