About Us

Survivor Advocates for Empowerment (SAFE) is a survivor-led organization dedicated to supporting individuals affected by gender-based violence (GBV) through recovery and beyond. Founded by survivors, SAFE offers peer support, advocacy, education, and community engagement to address and prevent the barriers faced by victims, their families, and friends.

Support and Advocacy

SAFE provides personalized peer support, discussion groups, outreach programs, and workshops tailored to the specific needs of survivors. By acting as companions and guides, SAFE helps individuals understand their options at any point in their journey to safety and security. This survivor-led support model ensures that assistance is rooted in lived experiences, fostering a sense of community and belonging.

Education and Public Awareness

Education is a cornerstone of SAFE's mission to combat GBV. The organization engages in community consultations, advocacy initiatives, and speaking engagements to raise awareness about gender-based violence and its pervasive effects. By consulting with community organizations, SAFE helps shape their understanding of GBV and informs their practices in supporting survivors and those at risk.

Community Engagement

SAFE actively participates in community events and collaborates with local organizations to increase awareness and improve existing services through peer support utilizing the survivor’s voice. By monitoring and assessing community needs, SAFE ensures its programs remain responsive and relevant to those it serves.

Becoming a Charitable Organization

Incorporated on August 7, 2023, SAFE is in the process of obtaining charitable status with the Canadian government. Achieving this status will enhance public trust, allow SAFE to issue official donation receipts, and expand its operations to make survivor-focused programs more readily available to those in need.

Get Involved

SAFE relies on community support to continue empowering survivors. Individuals can contribute by becoming peer supporters, volunteering, joining advocacy efforts, or donating to support SAFE's mission and growth. By engaging with SAFE, community members play a vital role in addressing and preventing gender-based violence, fostering a safer and more supportive environment for all.
